A Walk through Luxembourg City

Walk through Luxembourg

I’m not going to tell you that Luxembourg is a fascinating place to visit. But what I will tell you is that Luxembourg City is a beautiful and dramatically situated capital city and that I enjoyed visiting.

I had never been to Luxembourg. This was the biggest motivating factor for me. Luxembourg City was also along my route to Germany from Brussels. So I stopped off for a day and night, and continued my rail trip the next morning. They had an excellent YHA hostel there and I spent the afternoon and early morning walking around with my camera.

I was mostly interested in capturing the good early morning light and hoping to show how pretty the city looks, sitting high on the rocky outcrop. I also wanted to show that winter can be a fine time to visit as well.

Luxembourg is a banking center and the country has a reputation for being expensive for travelers. In my experience, I didn’t find it expensive. They actually have a great deal for a country-wide transportation and museum pass (inquire at the tourism office). Cooking at the hostel also saved me money. Another thing I should point out is that there is more to the country that just Luxembourg City. Read this post for more ideas: 8 Reasons to Visit Luxembourg.

wow, Luxembourg City looks so nice on your pictures! I was there for few hours over 8 years ago, it was gloomy and rainy and I didn’t like it at all. Now I can see I definitely should give it a second chance…
