Peru is probably the most popular destination in South America. The main draw is obviously Machu Picchu, but the country is the complete tourism package. It is a culturally rich country with a very diverse geography and ethnic makeup. This means plenty of interesting stuff for travelers. You’ve got everything from deserts to rain forests, colonial cities to ancient ruins, and glacier-covered peaks to the world’s highest navigable lake. Not to mention the best cuisine on the continent.

I spent about five weeks in Peru and still only saw a portion of this country three times the size of California. I didn’t even set foot in the north or in the Amazon, which covers 60% of Peru! I got to see a lot. And I captured it all on Instagram: from the Colca Canyon to the sand dunes at Huacachina to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
