The Arlbergline Scenic Railway of Austria

In February, I had the opportunity to ride a number of scenic rail routes in Europe with my Eurail Pass. The Arlbergline Scenic Railway of Austria was one of them. This railway is an fantastic way to sit back, relax, and take in the beauty of the Tyrolean Alps. Located in the westernmost region of Austria, the Arlbergline takes you from Bludenz to Innsbruck in two hours, complete with alpine scenery, picturesque villages, and one of the steepest grades for a standard rail line in all of Europe.

The line has got some superb scenery, but I’ll let you decide that for yourself. Below are some photos I took out the window. It’s not easy photographing through a train window, but I think I captured the essence of the route. Enjoy!

  1. stunning scenery! looks very comfortable as well. I just love the houses around Austria and Bavaria, snow and all!

  2. Where do we purchase tickets for the Arlbergline? Is it part of OBB?
Does it leave from the Main station in Innsbruck?
    Thanks
